Choice theory explains that, for all practical purposes, we choose everything we do, including the misery wer feel. Other people can neither make us miserable nor make us happy. All we can get from them or give to them is information. But by itself, information cannot make us do or feel anything. It goes into our brains, where we process it and then decide what to do. As I explain in great detail in this book, we choose all our actions and thoughts and, indirectly, almost all our feelings and much of our physiology. As bas as you may feel, much of what goes on in your body when you are in pain or sick is the indirect result of the actions and thoughts you choose or have chosen every day of your life.

Liderlik bir cesit etkileme sanatidir… Elindeki gucu sadece insanlari etkilemek amaciyla kullanmaktir… Eldeki guc kontrol amacli kullanildiginda ortaya cikan duruma liderlik degil yonetim denir. Cunku yonetimin 5 fonksiyonundan biri kontroldur.

Lider kontrol eden degil etkileyebilen ve yonlendirebilendir…

Fakat kontrol etme gudusu bazilarinda hastalik duzeyindedir… Etraflarindaki herkesi ve herseyi kontrol etmeye calisirlar.. Fakat aci olan sudurki kontrol etmeye calisdikca kendimizi dahi kontrol edemez hale geliriz… Yani cevremiz ve cevremizdekilere zarar verdigimiz yetmedigi gibi birde kendimizi yipratir dururuz..

Cunku hicbir zaman gercek anlamda sizin kontrolunuz mumkun olamayacaktir.. kendinizi yipratmanizin alemi yok…

Cozum yollarindan biri William Glasser M.D. ‘in secme/secim teorisi (choice theory) olabilir.

Evinde bir cocugu dahi idare edebilme yetisinden yoksun insanlarin devlet idare etmeye calismasi kadar gulunc birsey olamaz. Aslinda ilk liderlik egitimini ailemizden almaktayiz… sonra kendimiz ebeveyn oldugumuzda aile ortaminda sergiledigimiz tutum ve davranislarda bir anlamda liderliktir… Basit bir ornek vermek gerekirse herseye mudahele edip cocugunu surekli kontrol altinda tutmaya calismak sizin yonetici bir ebeveyn oldugunuzun gostergesidir. Fakat cocugunuza alternatifler sunup onun alternatifler arasinda secim yapmasi sizin lider bir ebeveyn oldugunuzun gostergesidir. Lider ebeveyn elindeki gucu cocuklarini kontrol amacli degil etkilemek ve yonlendirmek amaciyla kullanirlar… Simdi evinde cocuguna dahi guc gosterisi yapmaktan cekinmeyen biri, hiyerarsik yapilarda astlarina gucu gostermemesi ve hissettirmemesi icin bir sebep yoktur aslinda. Lider biri yine hiyerarsik orgutlerde elindeki gucu alternatifler sunarak yine istedigi sekilde astlarini idare etme ve yonlendirme amacli kullanir.

Liderlikte gonulluluk esastir, yoneticilikte gonul faktoru devre disi birakilir… Kimin uzun vadede etkin olacagini tahmin etmek zor olmasa gerek…

The Ten Axioms of Choice Theory

1. The only person whose behavior we can control is our own.
2. All we can give another person is information.
3. All long-lasting psychological problems are relationship problems.
4. The problem relationship is always part of our present life.
5. What happened in the past has everything to do with what we are today, but we can only satisfy our basic needs right now and plan to continue satisfying them in the future.
6. We can only satisfy our needs by satisfying the pictures in our Quality World.
7. All we do is behave.
8. All behavior is Total Behavior and is made up of four components: acting, thinking, feeling and physiology
9. All Total Behavior is chosen, but we only have direct control over the acting and thinking components. We can only control our feeling and physiology indirectly through how we choose to act and think.
10. All Total Behavior is designated by verbs and named by the part that is the most recognizable.
